Yangon
Yangon, the capital city, is the
main gateway to Myanmar. Evergreen
and cool with lush tropical trees,
shady parks and beautiful lakes,
Yangon has earned the name of "The
Garden City of the East".
Thanlyin
Thanlyin
is situated at the confluence of the
Yangon and Pegu Rivers; to be exact,
on the southern bank of the Pegu
River.
Bago
Bago is one of the richest
archaeological sites in Myanmar.
Apparently Mons were the first to
settle at this site. Two Mon
brothers Thamala and Wimala from
Thaton, first founded the city about
825 A.D.
Kyaikhtiyo
The famous legendary Pagoda on
the Golden Rock about 160 Km from
Yangon and 11 km of hiking from the
base camp at Kyaikhto.
Pyay
Pyay is an important commercial
center for trade between the
Ayeyarwady Delta, Central and Upper
Myanmar and the Rakhine (Arakan)
State. Pyay (Prome) is only 161 km
north of Yangon travelling along a
well-maintained highway by car.
Mawlamyine
Mawlamyine
(or Moulmein ) is the capital of the
Mon State in the Union of Myanmar.
It is also the third largest city in
the country, after Yangon and
Mandalay.
Mandalay
Mandalay is situated about 600
kilometers north of Yangon on the
Ayeyarwaddy River. It is Myanmar's
second largest city. Located in the
Mandalay Division, it is the
Capital. Mandalay is one of the
largest cities in the country.
Mogok
Mogok, where most of priceless
Gems are mined, lies in a beautiful
mountain valley, 128 miles to the
north-east of Mandalay, and 60 miles
to the east of Ayeyarwady river.
Sagaing
Sagaing lies 21km south-west of
Mandalay on the west bank of the
Ayeyarwaddy River. Sagaing became
the capital of an independent Shan
kingdom around 1315 after the fall
of Bagan.
Monywa
The name Monywa comes from "Mon"
meaning "cake or snack food" and "Ywa"
which is the Myanmar word for
village.
Pyin Oo Lwin
Located on the western bank of
the river Ayeyarwaddy, approximately
7 miles north of Mandalay. Over 1000
metres above sea-level, Pyin Oo Lwin
is a popular hill station about 69km
away from Mandalay.
Bagan
The main tourist destination
in Myanmar is Bagan, capital of the
first Myanmar Empire; one of the
richest archaeological sites in
South-east Asia. Situated on the
eastern bank of the Ayeyawaddy
River.
Popa
Mt. Popa is an extinct volcano
that is estimated to have erupted
for the final time, over three
hundred and twenty thousand years
ago. However, popa’s attraction
today lies not so much in its
geological aspect, but more in its
religious and mystical interests
which are still prevalent.
Inle
This vast picturesque lake, 900
metres above sea-level, is one of
the main tourist attractions in
Myanmar. The lake, 22 km long and 10
km across, has a population of some
150,000, many of whom live on
floating islands of vegetation.
Taunggyi
Taunggyi is situated in the
southern Shan State and is the
capital town of Shan States. It is
4,712feet above the sea level and
has a moderate climate.
Pindaya
Pindaya is a small quiet town
perched on the bank of the placid
Botoloke Lake. Pindaya cave is a
huge cavern where hundreds and
thousands of Buddha images in
various size and shape are installed
since the 11th century.

Myitkyina
Myitkyina can be reached by road,
rail, river and air. Different
tribes of national races live in
harmony with their own cultures,
customs, dialects, dances and
lifestyles. The glittering costumes
with silver trinkets of the charming
Kachin belles would be an enchanting
sight.
Putao
Situated in the north of
Myitkyina, the capital city of
Kachin state, can reach only by air
route. The city surrounded with snow
peaked mountains and the weather is
cold around the year.
Mrauk U
The unique characteristics of the
topography of Mrauk U are the tiers
of hills and mountains running
around it. Between them are natural
passes through which access is easy.
